Surprise at MoMA

This was hanging at MoMA. Of course Dave spotted it first. It still cracks me up.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral

Since we had stumbled across it--we decided to go in.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral

First day on the prowl in the city...(turns out that the telephoto isn't the best lens for shooting architecture in NY.) The great thing about walking around NYC for the first time is that you just keep coming across landmarks. We were on our way to MoMA, when suddenly--there was Saint Patrick's.

New York, New York

I did it. I finally made it to NYC. (Thanks Dave!) Here's a shot that includes Grand Central Station, our hotel (the Grand Hyatt) and the Chrysler Building. I've been back in Seattle since late Sunday night, and I'm already thinking about what I'll do the next time I'm there.

Self Diagnosis: Ouch

This is what happens when a brand new can of shaving cream falls on top of your foot in the shower. I'm pretty sure it cracked my fifth metatarsal. But this happened over a week ago now, and although it's still very tender to the touch, it's not too painful when I'm walking around. (Bonus trivia for longtime friends: Yes, it is the same foot and even same bone that I just plain broke way back when I was 21...this new hit is just about an inch forward of the "classic.")

I Like Brussel Sprouts?

The answer is (finally) yes. I have found a preparation (thanks to Orangette) that I like: First you shred the brussel sprouts (thanks Cuisinart!) and then saute them in olive oil (and a bit of butter) with garlic and toss in some pasta. Top with parmesan, pinenuts, black pepper and sea salt. What's not to like?

The Irony

Immediately after carefully framing this shot and taking this top picture, (which is looking back down Beach Drive toward Fauntleroy) I found myself thinking, "Wow, I'm so lucky to live in a place like this with so much beauty so close to home..."

And then I turn around to take the walkway down to the beach and see this spray painted on the wall:
(I laughed out loud, but couldn't disagree more!)

Wide Angle

Check out how cool it is to stand under cherry trees in full bloom with my new wide angle lens. It's too bad the sky was so flat and overcast when I took these pictures...but hopefully I'll be able to do this with blue skies soon...

Beautiful Salad Ingredients

I've been making lots of salads lately. The other day while I was busy chopping and slicing, I realized how beautiful and intricate some of the veggies were. Cucumber and red cabbage, you're worth a second look! (But I'm still eating you no matter how pretty you are.)
