Barnacles and Rust

These are more shots from yesterday morning's walk. This was at Richey Viewpoint at low tide. There are really cool rock formations on the beach and really cool rust formations on the older railings at the viewpoint...

One of Many

This was one of many chalk drawings on the sidewalk at the beach the other day. (I'm assuming they were all done by the same "artist.) I liked this one the best, and it had the added appeal of having no one walking over it while I was taking a picture of it...

Abstracts

Lately, I've really been drawn to peeling paint, rust stains, etc. They're like their own little galaxies or something...

California Poppies

Honestly, I like them better after their petals are gone...

Shadow Walk

From this morning's walk: There was already a lot of sun (hence the shadows) even a few hours before noon. I think it's going to be a busy day at the beach.

Photography Class Assignment: The Conceptual Photograph

This is half of the assignment that's due tomorrow. We were supposed to select a pair of words from a list and create images to reflect them. I was really agonizing over how to do this, when I looked back at other pictures I had taken earlier yesterday and realized that these two seemed to do a pretty good job summing up the word pair desire and indifference. (I'll let you figure out which is which...)

The Power of 10 (Megapixels)

Here is the same picture, severely cropped. Look at the detail! I think I'm going to get along with this new camera after all...

The Power of 10 (Megapixels)

Here is the same picture cropped a bit. It would have looked this good with my "old" camera.

Birthday Buddy

This is my new friend Evan (one month and one day after he was born). Not only do we share a birthday, but a fondness for afternoon naps as well! He's dreamy, in every sense of the word.

Weird

It seems totally wrong, but ever since I've started this photography class, I'm taking fewer and fewer pictures just for fun. I am so focused (no pun intended) on my assignments for class that I haven't been taking the pictures that I want to take...just because. Here are two exceptions. The first one is a closeup of a flower in my neighborhood. The second is part of a planting that Becky did for a super sweet ultra-modern home on Queen Anne. The background is a blue glass panel that makes up part of the front fence. The house is absolutely beautiful...and if I had an extra two million, I'd buy it myself.

Uggh. Assignment: Self-Portrait

Half of this week's assignment is taking two self- portraits. (Neither one of these are making the cut.) But they do illustrate some of the problems I faced: no assistant, no shutter release cable...they had to be shot in the mirror. In the first one, the camera decided to focus on the split between the mirror panels instead of me...(not that I blame it). I chose to include the second one here because it shows off my new camera...that I'm still getting used to.

Back from Bend

I could have used this shot for last week's assignment: Poetic use of color. I couldn't resist all of these oranges and reds out Uncle Dave's side window...canoe, fence, maple(?) tree...
